The program’s goal is to provide proper training to internationally educated nurses (IEN) to adapt to Canadian Nursing Practice Standards. This program facilitates IEN with extensive acquaintance and skills to meet clients’ complex health needs in always progressing practice environments. The IEN’s will participate in the assessment, analysis, advancement, application of practice and policy that directs care delivery. At the end of the program, IEN will acquire adequate knowledge about the Canadian Health Care System, the Canadian Nursing professions, licensing requirements, and available education and career pathways.
Upon completion of this program the successful student will
have reliably demonstrated the ability to:
- Comprehend the purpose for the standards of nursing practice within the Province with competence in professional judgement.
- Create and maintain therapeutic, caring and culturally safe relationships with clients and the health care team.
- Recognize the different scope of practice and standards of practice for RN, RPN, LPN and HCA.
- Develop a plan of care using critical thinking to support professional judgment and reasoned decision-making.
- Make patient-centred care decisions about their health, and work alongside RNs to achieve optimal health outcomes.
- Apply the knowledge of pharmacology and principles of safe medication practice.
- Assess their practice and individual competence to identify learning needs.
- Incorporate strategies to promote wellness to prevent illness and minimize disease and injury in clients, self and others.
- Adapt practice in response to spiritual beliefs and cultural traditions of clients.
- Implement infection control and prevention policies

- Student IEN (Internationally Educated Nurse)
- Registered nurses (they must register with BCCNM after completing the PGND program and complete the process to get their License to practice)
- Licensed practical nurses (they must register with BCCNM after completing the PGND program and complete the process to get their Licence to practice)
- Successful completion of all on-campus courses with a 65% overall average
- Successful completion of their Work Experience
- Successful completion of all industry-certified courses provided during the program.
- Successful completion of all practice education components.
- Students must achieve a minimum pass rate of 65% on all Final Exams and projects.
- Students must also maintain a minimum of 80% attendance throughout each course's duration in the program.
- Students are expected to complete all course exams, quizzes and assignments, and participate in all discussions and activities.
- Students must complete the assigned co-op report to be submitted one week after completing their co-op placement and achieving a Satisfactory Grade (S) to receive their formal Diploma.

- Students require ALL of the following:
- Applicants must be 19 years of age or older
- Proof of citizenship or permanent residency for domestic students or valid student visa for International Students.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Official transcript required)
- Proof of license as an RN in a country of origin or any other country (if applicable)
- Resume with 1125 hours OR 5 years nursing work experience
- Virtual Interview with the program coordinator or designate to ensure Student comprehension of requirements for licensure in Canada
