Program Overview

The Business Administration Co-op program combines all the dynamics of Business Foundation 200 which emphasizes the long-standing principle of โ€œDoing the Basics Best.โ€ The business courses in the Business Administration Pathway program focus on cutting-edge firsts, and up-to-date issues that shape todayโ€™s business world using experiential learning that helps students to build a solid foundation of business knowledge and skills. Students will learn the essentials for Canadian Business, International Business,Organizational Behaviour, Human Resource Management, and Business communications, Selling, Marketing and Financial Accounting. These courses work together to provide a seamless coverage of vital knowledge,helping students to understand the concepts behind best practices in business while they develop and refine their skills to meet employer expectations in business today.

Business Administration Pathway

This section outlines an academic pathway for students pursuing various business-related disciplines with the Business Administration Pathway Program.

Those studying Organizational Behaviour, Marketing, Business Communications, International Business, Human Resource Management, and Financial Accounting modules have a unique opportunity to further their education through pathway options leading to LaSalle College's Associate of Arts Degree.

This program offers a comprehensive approach, integrating these specialized fields into a well-rounded educational experience. It's an ideal choice for students aiming to deepen their understanding in these areas while earning a degree that opens doors to advanced career opportunities in the business world.

Upon completion of the entire course, students may be able to and not limited to obtaining a job in the Following NOC classification categories:
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Students require ONE of the following:

All applicants and registrants, regardless of citizenship status or country of origin, must demonstrate an adequate level of proficiency in English.

There are two ways to meet the English requirement:

1. Complete both of the following:

A) English 10, 11 or 12 or equivalent with a minimum of ‘C’ Grade for proficiency in reading and writing

B) Two years of full-time education in English in an English-speaking country For proficiency in speaking and listening

OR

2. Demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and listening by completing one of the following courses or assessments to meet acceptable levels:

Students require ALL of the following:

Proof of Canadian citizenship or permanent residency for domestic students

Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and completion of high school studies and/or commencement of postsecondary studies OR have achieved MATURE STUDENT STATUS: 19 years of age

  • Classroom Instruction 960 hours
  • Co-op 960 hours
  • Business Administration Pathway is a non-coop option duration excludes the coop hours and is ONLY 36 weeks in duration

Courses

Course 1 โ€“ Business Essentials (BFBE) (120 of Hours)

This course is designed to introduce students to the contemporary business world in Canada and globally from the perspective of an employee, employer, consumer and investor. The course will cover business topics such as; business environments, entrepreneurship, organizing your business, managing your business, and lastly accounting principles and risk management. We hope to assist student analysis skills, build their business knowledge and exercise their presentation skills.

Course 2 โ€“ Organizational Behaviour (BFOB) (120 of Hours)

This course is designed for students who have no previous experience in business, but who desire to obtain a general overview of business and who are pursuing a business program of study. This course examines organizational theory and application. It makes a comprehensive review of individual, group, and organizational performance in relation to organizational structures in contemporary business settings.

Course 3 โ€“Marketing (BFMK) (120 of Hours)

In this course students will have an enhanced understanding of basic marketing concepts, strategies and practices. The course will cover strategic marketing planning processes. And, youโ€™ll put those processes to task by creating a marketing plan using the external environment, market research, and consumer and business buying behaviour. Your strategic execution will utilize the 4Pโ€™s and a range of marketing communications. We will assist student understanding of strategic marketing process, utilize new technologies and exercise their presentation skills.

Course 4 โ€“ Business Communications (BFBC) (120 of Hours)

In this course students will learn the foundations of business communications by discussing and reviewing the importance of effective communication skills, communicating in teams, mastering listening, nonverbal communication skills, and the practice of intercultural communications in the global environment. Students will practice the three-step writing process to plan, write and complete business messages in electronic media and online social media alternatives (Email,Twitter, Blogs, etc.).

Course 5 โ€“ International Business (BFIB) (120 of Hours)

In this course we will help students understand how the elements of international business are related and with a focus on employability skills students will understand how the concepts learned in this course will be relevant to their future careers. The course will cover the challenges of Globalization by embracing the central role of people and their cultures in international business. The use of real-world examples throughout the book brings international business to life. The course ends with a group assignment that reflects the content of the book and gives students the opportunity to exercise their presentation skills.

Course 6 โ€“Selling Essentials (BFSE) (120 of Hours)

In this course students will learn the fundamentals of Selling and how to communicate effectively during the entire sales cycle in todayโ€™s competitive world. Throughout this course, students will develop a personal selling philosophy that incorporates the marketing concept, a relationship strategy that creates customer value in an ethical context, a product strategy that incorporates creative product solutions that add value, a customer strategy that addresses buyer behaviour by understanding customer needs through effective prospecting and a presentation strategy focusing on solutions that adds value for the customer.

Course 7 โ€“ Human Resource Management (BFHR) (120 of Hours)

Human resources (the people who work in organizations) are among the most important organizational assets, and this course brings students and their instructor into a current and comprehensive discussion about human resources today. The term human resources refers to the employeeโ€“employer relationship in the workplace. The knowledge, skills, assets, and competencies employees bring to their work help the organization achieve its objectives; these resources provide a source of competitive advantage for organizations in a hyper-competitive, global environment.1

Course 8 โ€“ Financial Accounting (BFAC) (120 of Hours)

Financial Accounting gives students a solid foundation in the fundamentals of accounting and the basics of financial statements, and then builds upon that foundation to offer more advanced and challenging concepts and problems. The concepts and procedures that form the accounting cycle are also described and illustrated early in the course and are then applied consistently in the topics that follow. This scaffolded approach helps students to better understand the meaning and relevance of financial information, see its significance within a real-world context, as well as develop the skills needed to analyze financial information in both their courses and career.
